JokerDragonNov2015 by Kauhana
I've been dabbling in pixel art, because I love it and I'm such a huge sucker for it, so I decided to learn to make my own.

I used to draw some sort of joker dragon every Friday the 13th, marked by a weird twist, black and white, and a charteruse eye. Then I had trouble coming up with ideas and completing them so I stopped. Tyler requested I do a pixel dragon so this is what I came up with. It was difficult and I only did it because he asked me to.

It's 200x100, took a lot of time, required a tad of dithering, some anti-alising which still freaks me out to try but I feel I did a good job, and some knowledge of where to just leave out pixels that, when it's blown up, feel like they should be there - like at the end of the whisker. And as you're probably distracted by the yin-yang theme or are just puzzled as to why it only has one whisker and one wing (and its horns are mismatch) - it's half Western and half Eastern. I would have made the claws different, too, but after struggling with that for a while gave up, unable to express more than dragon claws, not dragon paws and dragon talons (which would have helped with the dichotomy).
It's not as good as I want it to be, not gorgeous like say, monsters found in FF VI, but it's a good start.
Magic Knight Eldair by Kauhana
Magic Knight Eldair
A bit of fanart I did for - a webcomic I love. The splicing of their characters and Magic Knight Rayearth is due to some similarities in story and the creator's jokes about it.

In other news, I have two scanners, and yet neither one can manage to scan a whole picture without washing out the (extremely generous) margins. Thanks, scanners, I appreciate that.

I feel like my drawing hasn't been improving very much lately so I decided to make a list of things that I have a hard time doing so I can have a list of things to look at and think about when I'm trying to improve.

1. Scaling a figure to a page BEFORE I've already drawn it and the person's feet are cut off
2. Objects interacting with each other, from one person holding an object or leaning on an object, to two or more people touching or touching the same object.
3. Coloring, watercolors, pencils, smooth coloring.
4. Facial expressions that rely 0% on stock Anime expressions (Y'know, ^_^, XD, vein, O_O, etc); the sub goal is figuring out how wrinkles over the nose, around the mouth, by the eyes, and on the forehead change an emotion since before I've mostly just worked with eyebrows and mouth and MAYBE eyes.
5. Eyes. In relationship to eyelids, each other, working on showing where a person's looking...
6. Textures. I can do a few textures, but only a few. And part of my problem with textures comes from...
7. Shading. Shading more than I do. Shading better than what I do. In more styles.

I also want to start using my quill and inks to draw.

So these are my goals. I'd say for 2014 but I'm really focusing on completing a finished, polished draft of my book for 2014 and I don't need the distraction of drawing. But maybe if I get it done in the first half, it can be my goal for the second half of the year. Or maybe they'll just stay goals until I feel good about my skills in that area.

Art: I've been drawing since I could pick up a pencil. I've had precious little real schooling or other instruction in art, so for the most part I've learned through copious amounts of practice, from observing the real world carefully, and by watching the techniques of artists who draw the way I wish I could.

Writing: I have also been writing as soon as I knew letters, and I've also come a long way. I've had a bit more education for writing, but a lot of my expertise is just experience and from reading a lot. I am currently on draft V of my first novel, Death's Tear.
I pride myself in my villains. I know villains back and forth and upside down, and if you're looking for advice, check out my blog!

Me personally? I'm Rii the Wordsmith. I'm an avid consumer of fiction in all its mediums, a gamer, a psychologist, a wife, I'm religious but most people wouldn't assume that on meeting me...I'm an evil overlord. I don't know, I'm not really sure you can understand a person well from just describing them.

Anyway hope you enjoy my works (and no, srsly, check out my blog!)
